There comes a time when purpose calls louder than routine, and when what once sustained no longer fulfills.

Pen and Purpose Studio is my answer to that call.

​

I’m Maxine Willoughby, founder of Pen and Purpose Studio; a space where purposeful storytelling, creativity, and meaningful communication come together.

​

This studio grew from my resolve to step away from a familiar career and embrace the work I had always been drawn to.

​

For years, I worked in medical laboratory technology, where precision, structure, and careful observation were essential. Beyond the laboratory, however, I was always writing—collecting thoughts, shaping ideas, and discovering that words had the power to encourage, teach, and inspire.

​

Pen and Purpose Studio became the place where those two worlds met.

Today, I create children’s and young adult literature, including poetry, stories, and creative nonfiction that encourage curiosity, kindness, resilience, courage and meaningful conversations between children, young adults, parents, and educators.

​

Alongside my creative work, I provide creative writing, children’s & young adult writing, article writing, copy editing & line editing, and proofreading services for authors, individuals, and businesses who value thoughtful, purposeful communication.

Whether I’m writing a children’s or young adult literature, an article, or helping someone refine their writing, my goal remains the same:

To create work that informs, encourages, and inspires.

2011–2024

Built a professional career in medical technology, developing a strong foundation in analytical thinking, precision, and discipline.

 

2024

 

Began intentionally realigning my career with writing, creativity, and purpose.

 

2025

 

Pursued formal studies in creative writing, copywriting, content marketing strategy, search engine optimization (SEO), editing, and proofreading while building the foundation for Pen and Purpose Studio.

 

2026

 

Launched Pen and Purpose Studio and published my first children’s poetry book, beginning a long-term journey dedicated to purposeful storytelling and meaningful communication.
